Excel Tutorial – CHAR

The CHAR function in Microsoft Excel is a function that returns the character associated with a specified ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) code. This function is useful for analyzing and manipulating text data in Excel.

To use the CHAR function, follow these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Excel and select the cell where you want the result to appear.
  2. Type the following formula into the cell: =CHAR(number)
  3. Replace “number” with the ASCII code that you want to get the character for.
  4. Press Enter to see the result.

The CHAR function returns the character associated with the specified ASCII code. ASCII is a standardized system for representing characters as numbers, with each character assigned a unique numeric code.

For example, if you use the CHAR function to get the character for the ASCII code 65, it will return the letter “A”, because 65 is the ASCII code for the letter “A”. Similarly, the CHAR function will return the letter “B” for the ASCII code 66, and so on.

You can use the CHAR function to analyze and manipulate text data in Excel. It is a very useful tool for working with characters and strings in Excel.
