Excel Tutorial – SUMPRODUCT

The SUMPRODUCT function in Microsoft Excel is a function that multiplies corresponding elements in two or more arrays and returns the sum of the products. This function is useful for performing complex calculations involving multiple arrays of data.

To use the SUMPRODUCT function, follow these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Excel and select the cell where you want the result to appear.
  2. Type the following formula into the cell: =SUMPRODUCT(array1, array2, …)
  3. Replace “array1”, “array2”, etc. with the cell references or ranges of cells that you want to multiply and sum.
  4. Press Enter to see the result.

The SUMPRODUCT function multiplies each element in the first array by its corresponding element in the second array, and so on, and then adds up all of the products. For example, if array1 contains the values 1, 2, and 3, and array2 contains the values 4, 5, and 6, the SUMPRODUCT function will return the result (14) + (25) + (3*6) = 32.

You can use the SUMPRODUCT function to perform complex calculations involving multiple arrays of data. It is a very useful tool for analyzing and manipulating data in Excel.
